Dias Ex Machina Games

Really enjoying the Amethyst softcover. I'm about 40 pages in, have flipped around a bit, and am confused by one (possibly obvious) concept- what are echans and techans?

An echan is a person who embraces the world of magic; who has turned to that side or was born to it.

A techan is a person of technology. The vast majority of techans are those born in the last cities of scientific man, bastions.

Players can be from either side but they are often rivals...

So you got the softcover? How does it look? I am still waiting.

Do these terms only apply to humans, or all PC races?

The softcover looks amazing, both content and printing. Love it. If I'd known the book/setting was going to be this good, I would have plunked down the extra coin for the hardcover.

Since all magical creatures generate interference (AKA disruption) only humans can be true techans.

Gimfen don't radiate an EDF (Enchantment Disruption Field) but it is still tricky for them to use technology. Keep reading, it's all explained in detail (I sure as hell hope)

Humans are the only ones that can really decide to be either techans or echans. Gimfen could as well, it's just really uncommon.

I am glad the softcover looks good, and I appreciate the thought of upgrading to the hardcover. However, please note that if you had ordered the hardcover, you would still be waiting. It takes six to eight days for Lulu to process a HC and it still takes two weeks to ship. My softcover will be here next week. The HC is probably still two weeks away

Now it makes sense. I will spread the word, this is a great book, especially for those of us not making the leap to 4e.

It seems to be the definitive integration of classic D&D with modern times. Well done.
