since the end of the year is drawing closer and im getting ready for the new year ive been looking threw all my gaming stuff like idea pads, old character sheets and notes for campaigns and what not. during my sorting i came across notes i had taken for a game that ran and finished with alot of praise from my players. the game was the hollow earth expedition(links to the game site http://www.exilegames.com/games/hex.html ) an awesomly pulpish setting dealing with hawkmen, lost worlds, nazis and most importantly of all dinosaurs.

and this got me to thinking about this new game i bought this year that i wanted to run in its setting very much. but couldn't due to the fact every one thought it was a knock off of shadow run. but i think i know how to hook them into the amethyst setting so here's my idea for a game

a small techan outpost sends word that there being attack by large bipedal reptiles though they have been able to defend themselves against the critters and were lucky enough to kill afew defending them selves in attacks. the attacks have been infrequent and damage has been minimal. no one has been seriously hurt but the strangest occurrence yet is no tech has been disrupted or effected in any way. the creatures seem to be searching for something and they leave as suddenly as they arrive. the dead creatures are marked with brands and some have wires attached to there heads. so then the techan players are contracted to find and kill the nest and while an additional faction some sort of biotech research group who wants some samples of the creatures. the biggest rewards going to the retrieval of live eggs from the creatures.

meanwhile in a small village located in a valley south of the techan depo known by the techan tourist trade as a safe enchanted valley with a village surrounded by quaint farms. this has changed recently as they have come under seige by drakes of unknown breed descending from the far hills every night. they seem to be searching for somthing but thus far have been unsuccesful and have been driven back by the towns defenders and stalward travelers staying in the local travelers inn. the beasts that have been slain seem to have been born with brands human in origin marking them as there property and the elders surmise that they are using them in an attempt to ransack the town. the town elders have decided to deliver a message to the human trader outpost asking for help.

while both groups travel to convien at the depo as they travel they come across dead wild life/livestock and the obligatory eaten traveler with a loot/exp token to be traded in. as they are half way there they get attacked by puggs, boggs and just as they are about to be over whelmed by there attackers the dinosaurs attack as the dinosaurs eat puggs, boggs, and players in that order. after the fight the players find a small token or somthing on one of the leaders of the boggs a small ball of sorts that occasionly drips a clear gooey glob of somthing that smells funny (infrared tracking dye) and when broken open has a small sheilded ultra-sonic emitter device in it the any fae of the group who have darkvison can see the bright violet from the goo (but only in the dark) and some of them can hear a small whining buzzing from the orb.

upon arriving at the depo they find signs of violence and afew dino's that were left behind but no bodys of the people who lived and worked there. they must track them to there source in the hills and will have to pass through the village that has been raided as well. they continue in to the hills untill they find a fort converted by a group of techans into a base/testing lab which is using dinosaur bones to clone new ones for evil! then they must infiltrate the fort to free the villagers and techan and then going on to kill the remaining dinosaurs and techan scientist and dino handlers. leaving the fort practically empty save for the left over equipment of the techans and for the echans swords and armor from the original owners of the fort. searching the fort will reveal enough resources and equipment to set up a little base for the PCs and a cache of eggs for the biolab reward But then heres the clincher. After they send the eggs off to the lab back home its revealed that the techans holding the fort and breeding the dinos are apart of the biolab

i believe that this will lend it self some what to the setting putting a nice juxtaposition to the echan encroachment on techan as the dinos are being trained to fight the echan. it also leaves some nice ethical questions to your players as about what they should do about the dinos such as if they are left alive will they turn into a greater threat by the power of Attricana slowly affecting them or they will start reverting to their trained nature and start killing everything they come across. and then you have the whole cloneing is wrong/right debate to go on

i havent come up with any ideas for a campaign to continue from this but i think it might work if the PCs have one shot adventures then come back to the threat of dinosaurs in amethyst i will post more when i think of somthing to continue on

...Wait...I am STILL dealing with Shadowrun comparisons?

No cyberpunk.
Completely different backstory.
No mingling of magic and tech.
Post apocolyptical landscapes with no corporations.
Magic kingdoms beside futuristic cities.

Why must I still respond to these? :)

the shadow run comparisons seems to be a knee jerk reaction from just skimming over it and not reading the whole book in its entirety and a sort of fear of leaving their comfort zone with the premise of the magic and sceince dont mix.
i had one guy said he didnt like the book cause of the elf chick on the cover was holding a laser gun.

but what do you think of my idea for an adventure.
